Oral health is extremely important to overall health and well-being. Research has shown a link to diabetes, heart and lung disease, stroke, respiratory illnesses and conditions of pregnant women including the delivery of pre-term and low birth weight infants. Dental disease is largely preventable through effective health promotion and dental disease prevention programs. Collaboration with medical partners to provide compelling messaging and preventive care is key to improving the overall health of all Floridians.  Elementary schools in Hendry and Glades counties are being provided with free preventative dental care while never leaving the school.  The children will be seen by a dental hygienist for a dental exam, fluoride treatment, oral hygiene instructions and dental sealants as needed.  Each child seen will receive a toothbrush, toothpaste, flossers, and a 2-minute timer.  Any dental concerns will be noted and the parents/guardians will be informed.  If there are any questions or concerns about the program our dental hygienist will be happy to address them.
